Aylesbury then and now film night

Local groups were invited to an evening celebrating the Aylesbury past and present on film at the Cinema Museum in Elephant and Castle.

Date published: 13 Oct 2016

It was lights, camera, action and dress to impress at the event on Thursday 6 October, when 40 guests arrived at one of London’s best kept secrets - an Aladdin’s cave of film memorabilia, show-biz celebrity trophies and cinema decor.

Taking centre stage were residents of all ages presenting films and collections documenting the places, stories and people that make up the local area.

The big screen featured a film by young people from the estate, a film by young people from the Old Kent Road Mosque and a presentation by a group of older residents who worked with Age Exchange to look back at their family history in the area.

Rashidat Hassan from the Old Kent Road Mosque said “I really like what you’re doing by trying to get people involved using the wood workshop and events like this. You’re not just building, you are carrying the community along and making them feel part of it.”

A dressing up box of feather boas, top hats and a Polaroid camera set the scene for further performances through out the evening.
